No green herons but….

Yesterday morning I went to the North Meadows in Old Deerfield to see if the green herons had arrived yet… nope! It is so nice to head out in the morning trying to locate new Spring arrivals…. I have been seeing some reports of green herons in our general area and thought it was worth a shot at the ponds at the North Meadows but no dice.

The sunrise was glorious with great temps around 38 degrees and no wind…

I hung around long enough to confirm in my mind that the green herons had not made it back yet so I then decided to head over to some thickets where I have had luck in the past with various warblers. I kept thinking to myself… there have got to be warblers somewhere. There were beautiful tender buds on the thickets which is a sure calling card for warblers…

My first sighting of the morning was a gorgeous white throated sparrow that landed right in front of me along the edge of the north pond.

And another!

Next I saw something zipping around to my left ….my first of the year Yellow-rumped warbler! Scored!

And another!

Another White-throated sparrow in stunning light….

I found myself in a frenzy of yellow-rumped warblers! They were zipping around landing everywhere!

I walked slightly to my right and then saw these cuties!

Gone!

Walking back towards my original location I spotted my last yellow-rumped of the morning…..Such a beautiful morning. It is very exciting and reassuring to know that the first wave of warblers are arriving…

Wishing us all peace…
