Nature’s Fireworks!

This morning I went to Bullitt - once again it was hot and humid so I knew I wouldn’t be staying too long. When I was driving I could see areas of fog in the low-lying areas at Bullitt- I just love when that happens. I parked as quickly as I could in order to head to a spot to try and capture the fog during sunrise - I have been waiting for the right opportunity. As I was walking from the parking area the horizon began to burst with a flaming red/orange color. I hustled over to get in position as quickly as I could….This was more than I had hoped for as the sun was just cresting the horizon- I’ll call this breathtaking scene - Nature’s Fireworks!

I honestly could not believe what I had just witnessed.

It was time for me to make my way to the upper field. The humidity was making the air thick and fog was rolling through this field. To me, it made the greens look even softer in color and a gorgeous back drop for the very dependable Song Sparrow perched in his favorite plant!

I would love for you to tell me what this web reminds you of - I instantly knew what I thought of….

MANY mornings I have been teased by a pair of Tanagers up in the far right corner of the upper field. I have not had a good sighting of the male Tanager…. until today!! I had set up in that corner just hoping that I would finally have a chance and today was the day. He put on the biggest show for me - it was incredible! Here you go -

As soon as the Tanager flew off I saw something flash to my left! A young Chestnut-sided Warbler! I love that the leaves were full of raindrops from the night before and went flying when he landed.

I have also been trying to photograph a Red-eyed Vireo many times this year… this morning was the morning! :)

I walked back down the path and set up just hoping someone would land on this beautiful bush just filled with berries… and the Gray Catbird did just that.

I felt like I was on such a roll that I walked back up the path and set up low and at an angle I have wanted to try… and then everything fell into place. I first heard the male Common Yellowthroat but could not see him. A few moments later - there he was!

In an instant I saw leaves moving down and to my right… I quietly moved to my right and stayed very low - I wanted to be in their world. What a treat - a very young Common Yellowthroat popped up and sent water droplets flying! I was so close to this little one it was amazing - absolutely did not care that I was there. I also knew that I could try and capture some of the water droplets as prisms of light…. you cannot make up what nature serves up.

I was hoping a good shake of the feathers would be in order - the young one was so wet. And just like everything else this morning - more Lorraine Magic! I can’t tell you how many times I have tried photographing a bird giving a good shake of their feathers. Today was the day….:)

In an instant he went from shaking out his feathers to spotting a bug!

But decided… I guess not…

The sun started to poke through more

Absolutely soaking wet -

Please look closely… the end of one of his toes is within a prism of light…..

I just love this pose and the colors in the water droplets…. another version of nature’s fireworks…

This is the last shot of the morning… he flew off and sent water droplets everywhere.

Thanks for coming along with me…
