Silhouettes

I am so glad that so many of you enjoyed seeing the Snowy - I have to say I think it is impossible to look at a Snowy and not smile!

I have wanted to do a post of silhouettes for quite some time - I just haven’t had the right timing etc. to create the images that I was hoping for. Well…. I was in Islamorada in the Florida Keys not too long ago with my sister and her wife and I had opportunities that were more than I had dreamed of! Each morning I would head out to a dock and watch the world wake up around me - it was truly one stunning morning after another for 6 mornings in a row. I would get up so early that I was on the dock with no hint of dawn yet - just a sky so filled with stars that I felt I could reach out and touch them. I had no idea what was in store for me but wow it was truly spectacular in so many ways.

I will do another post at a later time that will include shots that I am very excited to also share with you where you can actually see the colors of the feathers on these gorgeous birds. :). But for this post it is all silhouette shots that I took over the course of 4 of the mornings. From the dock I was on I could see another dock which is what you will see in a couple of the images. I had been hoping for birds to fly by me in the very early hours and I truly was blown away by what flew by me - each morning I felt like I was in a nature movie - it was one stunning morning after another! Some mornings had not a cloud in the sky and other mornings had beautiful clouds. The early morning temps were just beautiful - in the low 60’s. I set up on the dock looking straight out at the endless horizon - we were on the ocean side in the Keys. If using the hands of a clock as our guide, the sun rose at about 11:00 if 12:00 was straight out from where I was set up. That alignment ended up being exactly what I needed to get the following shots. These mornings were filled with such awesome beauty and such peace -

I hope that you enjoy -

Cormorant

Each morning I would watch some Cormorants fly in -

These are the pilings that the Cormorants and other birds would each try to land on -
