House of Feathers - Episode 6
This episode picks up 24 hrs after Episode 5…. Needless to say I was worn out, but exhilarated, after all of my time at the nest the previous days. I knew that I would kick myself if I didn’t get up and get back to the nest to see what was happening… So away I went again before sunrise. It was a slightly foggy misty morning.
I arrived at my spot, set up, and immediately zoomed in on the nesting site… and was instantly happy that I had made the trip! Right next to the resting crane on the nest (I am assuming it was the female on the nest as it usually is overnight) was her incredible mate standing guard…
They stayed in these very quiet positions for quite some time. Just as you are, I am always holding my breath until I am able to confirm that both chicks are alive and well. Thankfully, here is this morning’s confirmation…
As you can see they are immediately playing, tumbling, and pushing each other around. They rolled right off of the nest into the water and popped right up!. It is amazing to see how buoyant they are -
These two kept at each other for quite some time…. and finally Mom said enough is enough! I have never seen this happen - this still makes me laugh to myself - Mom came right down on one of them to end their squabbling with one another! How cute is this??
Look closely and you can still see the other one’s little head turned on its side under Mom. Absolutely adorable….
The action of this particular morning - so adorable! The outside chick decided it was time to go around towards the front of Mom while the one under is peeking out from underneath! I hope this series makes you smile as much as it makes me smile.
And then the one under decided to quickly re-position underneath…
The parent is constantly having to re-adjust when the kids are roaming around in the House of Feathers! :)
One of them made it to the top!
Was it the sound of my camera or me that got this little one’s attention? You know how much I love these moments when we lock eyes…
And then the other little popped out up near the front -
This little one sure was hungry. After this shot all was quiet and both were tucked in for some much needed rest. I decided I would also head home and get some rest - what a beautiful morning.
