Feathers in the Surf

I want to thank you again for your texts, VMs, emails and posted comments - it is truly my pleasure to share the wonder of our natural world with all of you! This is the last post from the Florida part of my trip and I thought I would concentrate on birds that I found on an early morning beach walk.  I was on the Gulf coast and I walked on the beach so that the sun would rise over my right shoulder.

It is time to come along with me …

Very early on the winds were very calm and I found these sweeties along the way…

Sanderlings

I have honestly never seen so much bathing in the foam before— it was so adorable to watch them and they seemed so happy right where they were.

Just as the full sun made its way up over the horizon - something caught my eye up in the sky- an Osprey with breakfast!

With the rising sun the wind was really starting to ramp up.  As I looked further down the beach I saw a pair of White Ibis in the beautiful surf! I hustled down the beach as quickly as I could… I hope that you enjoy this series— I have never seen them getting breakfast like this before.  They were very successful -but wow they had a lot to contend with and that didn’t seem to bother them one bit!

The surf kept getting stronger and stronger -

Amazing wall of water coming right at him - he decided enough is enough!

That’s it from Florida! Next stop—- Little St. Simons Island in Georgia!
